I had Hodgkin's disease and was on chemotherapy. I had bad pulmonary toxicity, severe anemia, and fluid around my lungs and heart. I went into respiratory failure while lying alone on the sofa one Saturday morning. Everything, including me, dissipated-- became like mist-- and I could see beyond the mist, although I wasn't really seeing anymore.
My experience began three weeks before my heart attack. First, I had a sick feeling that came over me while I was teaching school; the term would be over in three weeks. Thinking I was having a heart attack, the EMT’s came and got me at school took me to the emergency room, but it turned out to be acid reflux (a common precursor to heart attack). So I went back to school.
It was about ten o'clock on Saturday morning February 28, 1987, when I had an experience that changed the rest of my life! This day was different than any other because after I left my home, I would not be back for months.
In Dec of 2008 I went to my doctor for a check up because I had been feeling low energy and my periods had increased to almost three times a month. After running some tests, my doctor was shocked that I could even function, as my blood count was down to a level where most people needed dialysis. I knew my periods had been more frequent and extremely heavy, but I did not think anything of it. In reality, I had been slowly bleeding to death, and without immediate attention, I would require a blood transfusion every few days to survive. I tried to postpone surgery until after my daughter’s graduation from college, but my doctor convinced me I could not wait. She ordered an immediate hysterectomy.
I was playing in the basement of our home, and I was eating a hard candy (we called them jawbreakers). The candy got stuck in my windpipe and I could not breathe. After a few minutes, I fell to the ground and started to float out of my body. I found myself in a sort of tunnel, but it was full of colors that sparkled and I was starting to walk over a bridge to this beautiful landscape. I saw a brilliant light and from this light, a figure emerged and came towards me.
