Can Nonspeaking People with Autism Communicate Telepathically?
The concept of telepathy is equal parts fascinating and controversial. It’s a topic mainstream materialist science treats as a pseudoscientific third rail, and shuts down as coincidence, sensationalism, or confirmation bias. But it’s a question worthy of deeper exploration: Is telepathy real? Have we scientifically explored this subject to its fullest depths?
At the upcoming IANDS Conference 2025, three notable researchers will present findings that may challenge that conventional science. And they’re going to approach that question—is telepathy real?—through an inquiry into the possibility of telepathic communication in nonspeaking individuals with autism.
Neuropsychiatrist Diane Hennacy Powell, MD holds a medical degree from Johns Hopkins, and is a former faculty member at Harvard Medical School. Her writing appears in Oxford University’s Handbook on Psychology and Spirituality. By every account, she’s as perfectly credentialed as any scientist in her field can reasonably be. And she began investigating this phenomenon after parents had reported that their nonspeaking autistic children appeared to understand unspoken thoughts.
Dr. Powell is well known for her appearances on the massively popular podcast The Telepathy Tapes, with some estimates placing its listenership in the millions.
Dr. Powell will be joined by two other impressive panelists—Dr. Marina Weiler, Ph.D., of the University of Virginia Division on Perceptual Studies, and Dr. Marjorie Woollacott, Ph.D., IANDS Research Director and a professor at the Institute of Neuroscience at the University of Oregon.
This fascinating panel will take place on Friday, August 29th from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. during IANDS Conference 2025. Dr. Powell will also deliver one of our keynote addresses on Thursday, August 27th at 9 a.m., followed by a book signing
