Foushee (D-NC) helped IANDS inaugurate the first-ever Near-Death Experience Week in a surprising way: sending us a thoughtful and encouraging letter recognizing this special event. Congresswoman Foushee sent IANDS Executive Director Janet Riley a letter formally recognizing Near-Death Experience Week, while also acknowledging the efforts of the volunteers and staff at IANDS who work so passionately to support experiencers, engage in scientific research, and educate the public.
Congresswoman Foushee has spent decades advocating for education and science. She’s the Ranking Member of the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee and serves on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Congresswoman Foushee also serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and is a member of the Aviation Subcommittee and the Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee.

It is my pleasure to be among those recognizing Near-Death Experience Week. This week is an opportunity for us to educate people across North Carolina on near-death experiences and recognize research in this field.
I commend the tireless efforts of the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) to research this phenomenon, support individuals that had near-death experiences, and educate the public on this field. Through its multi-disciplinary research and public engagement, IANDS is leading our understanding on these experiences and raising awareness of this issue.
Thank you for your continued dedication to advancing research and education in this field. I look forward to hearing about the organization’s continued advancements in near-death experience research.
