Are you interested in helping advance the scientific field of near-death studies? Well, if you or someone you know has had an NDE, we could certainly use your help. We’d love for you to participate in near-death experience scientific research and contribute your knowledge and experiences to experts.
There are several near-death experience scientific research studies happening right now. And if you’re an experiencer, these projects could really use your help to get across the finish line.
Some studies require specific criteria for involvement. For instance, the most recent study calls for participants who’ve had NDEs during labor or childbirth. Another study focuses on terminal lucidity amongst children and adults. So please browse that list and see if there’s a study for you!
What is typically involved in near-death experience scientific research?

Participation in an NDE research study usually involves speaking with researchers, filling out questionnaires, or some combination thereof. And most of these studies take less than an hour to finish.
The IANDS Academic & Research Committee approved each of these near-death experience scientific research studies. Professors, healthcare professionals, and other experts conduct these studies. And your participation can make a world of difference.
If you’re an experiencer, you might also consider telling your NDE story to IANDS, too. Your personal NDE account would play an important role in advancing near-death experience scientific research!
Why should experiencers participate?
Experiencers face a great many stigmas regarding NDEs. Healthcare professionals who aren’t familiar with NDEs struggle to provide patients with adequate support. Family members and friends may not understand the gravity of what an experiencer has been through, or might even be dismissive of the experience in general.
Near-death experience scientific research can help alleviate all of that. By studying near-death experiences and related phenomena, researchers learn not only what causes NDES and what their short-term and long-term impacts are, but also how better to provide care for experiencers. How to communicate with and support them better.
You can contribute to our mission even if you’ve never had an NDE. You could make a tax-deductible donation to IANDS, consider becoming an IANDS member, or visit the IANDS Extraordinary Shop. Or even just share our stories on social media. Every little bit helps IANDS advance not only near-death experience scientific research, but conversations on these topics as well!
Participating in studies, sharing stories, and otherwise contributing isn’t just about helping researchers. It’s about being a part of a movement. It’s not just about the science community understanding NDEs, but helping the world at large value them, too. That’s the future we’re building together, and your voice, your story, and your support can help make that a reality.
