Abstract: In order to learn about the prevalence rate in a larger Indian population and to explore new features of near-death experiences (NDEs), I systematically surveyed 60 villages in southern India covering a population of 36,100 persons. The prevalence rate was 4 cases per 10,000 persons. Unlike the Western studies that have been generally conducted in hospital settings, the present study was conducted in the community setting. I systematically studied new features of visibility in the other realms, the experience of bright but soothing light, sensation of a cave, extrasensory experiences, and attitude toward life and death. In spite of different locations (community versus hospital) of the experiencers at the time of NDEs in the Indian and Western cases, common features across cultures suggest the presence of some universality of features, lending support to my earlier thesis that commonalty in features is indicative of a genuine phenomenon underlying NDEs.

Abstract: According to Chawla et al. [1] near-death experiences could be caused by a surge of electrical energy released. We account for this spike using an electromagnetic-physiological theory based on transmission line model plus cortical network activity and using known properties of forward and backward propagating waves proposed earlier [2-5].

Rincic-Lerga, I., & Muzur, A. (2007). Death and dying in the works of two Croatian writers Journal of Near-Death Studies, 25(3) 181-187.

Abstract: The present paper elucidates the views upon death and dying expressed in the works of two Croatian writers, Dobrisa Cesaric and Miroslav Krleza. Both authors' concepts are materialistic, Cesaric's being more romantic and Krleza's more expressively cruel. Neither of the two mentions any religious element or fear. The paper concludes with a suggestion of an inquiry into the influence of the works by Cesaric and Krleza upon the ideas of modern elementary school and high school generations on death and dying.

Rominger, R. (2010). Postcards from heaven and hell: Understanding the near-death experience through art Art Therapy: Journal of the American Therapy Association, 27(1) 18-25.

Abstract: Art making offers the opportunity to reflect upon ineffable experiences, including those surrounding death and dying. This article examines the artwork of two research participants who each reported a near-death experience (NDE). A transpersonal model was used to elicit the narratives and artwork of two individuals: one who experienced a pleasant NDE and one who experienced a distressing NDE. The author concludes that understanding the similarities and differences between pleasant and distressing NDEs may help to facilitate a better therapeutic alliance with this population and provide greater potential for client growth and transformation.

Rominger, R. A. (2011). Spirituality Scale Ceiling Effects and Near-Death Experiences: An Exploratory Study Journal of Near-Death Studies, 30(2) 83-105.

Abstract: A common theme noted among near-death experiencers (NDErs) is the affirmation of increased spirituality after their near-death experiences (NDEs). This study focused on the question of whether the Human Spirituality Scale (HSS), a commonly used spirituality measure, would exhibit a ceiling effect among NDErs. Thirty-seven participants from eight countries participated in the online study. HSS scores were compared with NDE Scale (Greyson, 1990) scores and demographic information. Results revealed no ceiling effect but revealed a positive correlation between the HSS and the NDE Scale. Additionally, exploratory post-hoc analysis was conducted on participant subgroups, comparing males and females and participants from India and the United States. Finally, preliminary findings regarding four NDErs self-identified as atheist/ agnostic are described.
