This lecture will describe a variety of types of visionary experience (not necessarily connected to NDE) and explain their connection to the psychology and spirituality of the subject. I will explain why these are normal experiences, how they may be defended against, and why attempts are often made to reduce them to aberrant brain mechanisms or psychological disturbance. I will describe how visionary experiences may be healing and how they are related to other manifestations of the sacred.
