The DFW Friends of IANDS exists for people who've had near-death and/or related experiences or who have personal or professional interest in such experiences. The purpose of the group is to provide these people with a forum in which to discuss such experiences and their meaning and integration into subsequent life. Discussion takes place in an atmosphere of openness and interest/support without judgment, proselytizing, or advice-giving.

Our meeting content varies from month to month. Sometimes we have a structured program, such as a speaker or watching a relevant video followed by discussion. Other times, we "circle up" and discuss our own NDEs and related experiences and their ongoing meaning in our lives.

Although we meet in a Methodist church, the group is not affiliated with the Methodist--or any specific--religion. The church is conveniently located, and they gave us permission to use a meeting room without charge. However, those who attend and who can afford to do so are asked to make a $1 contribution to the church for our use of their meeting room

APRIL 2: After 17 years on the Harvard Medical School faculty, neurosurgeon Eben Alexander left academia for private practice. In 2006, he contracted bacterial meningitis and was in a coma for over a week. During the coma, he had multiple NDEs that, upon his miraculous recovery, transformed him and his cosmology. At the 2011 IANDS conference, Dr. Alexander told his story in a presentation he entitled, Childhood's End. At our meeting, we'll watch the DVD of Dr. Alexander's amazing and moving presentation. Come learn what metaphoric childhood Dr. Alexander perceives he outgrew and humanity is in the process of outgrowing.

MAY 7: In Dallas, Texas, in January of 2010, Peter Nichols sat in boiling soup. That is, he spilled freshly-made Ramen noodles on the leather couch where he was sitting. Despite medical emergency room treatment and the care of his wife, his burns became infected, and he spent two months at Parkland Hospital -- including four weeks of physical unconsciousness. Then in June of 2011 he again lost consciousness and spent an additional two months at Parkland. During both periods of unconsciousness, he experienced a completely separate world in which he had friends, lovers, and meaningful work that enabled him to connect with his essential self and to open to love. As a result, his perceptions of himself and of the people in his life have changed radically. At the May 7 DFW FOI meeting, Peter will describe his experiences and how they continue, even into the present, to be an inspiration to him.

JUNE 4: Five-year-old Susan Delaney was already on the ceiling of the operating room when she heard the resident ask the senior doctor if he wasn't afraid that the ether he was pouring onto Susan's mask would overdose her. "I don't care if it kills her," the man replied. "Too late," thought Susan. She was in a place of warmth and comfort and peace -- and that terrible smell was gone. The forgiveness and non-judgementalness that were infused into her during the time on the ceiling became guiding life principles that have helped her in the aftermath of that surgical experience, of the repeated sexual abuse she had experienced throughout the year prior to her NDE, and of other challenging experiences throughout life. Now a psychiatrist in Plano, Texas, Susan just released a new book about her recovery from sexual abuse. For information, see: www.susandelaneyauthor.com. Her book is available at www.amazon.com; people with Kindle and Amazon Prime can read it for free; otherwise, the price is $3.99. At our June 4 FOI meeting, Susan will discuss her book and will respond to attendees' questions and comments.

JULY 2: Over the years, Sandra Knight has had several unusual experiences. For our July 2 meeting, we will "circle up" to talk, and Sandra will kick off our discussion by describing these experiences and their effects on her. We'll spend the meeting discussing her experiences and whatever other topics they lead us to.

AUGUST 6: No meeting: Summer vacation!!

SEPTEMBER 3: Labor Day: Following their near-death experiences, NDErs often manifest increased psychic and mediumistic experiences. Our September 3 guest speaker will be Dallas area resident John Cappello. John has manifested aftereffects of another type of near-death experience than himself surviving a close brush with death. In 1992, after his father's death, John discovered a natural ability as a psychic and medium. He practiced these skills primarily as a hobby until 1997 when he started appearing at local psychic fairs and holding public demonstrations of his talent in metaphysical venues. He is now a speaker across the U.S.; an Internet radio talk show host; author of the book, “Open the Mind, Exercise the Soul”; and a workshop presenter on developing psychic abilities. At our meeting, John will tell his story, provide information about psychic ability and mediumship, respond to audience questions and comments, and provide brief psychic and/or medium readings for audience members for whom he has information.
